Step into Adventure

Fish the Pond.

Soak in the summer air and the comfort of familiarity.

The pond in this image shrinks and grows with the rains, as life must adapt to changing conditions, the world continues on with its own adventures every day.

Take some time to slow down and find patience.

Gaze at the stars for as long as possible, enjoy the show the sky will present. Wake up with your soul refreshed and ready for a new adventure.

Like fishing, it takes time to create a night photo. This particular night the wind was not calm, so the pond is in constant motion. Which means, the beautiful colors are reflected on the top of the water (in part thanks to the light pollution) but not the points of light from the stars. I named this image Fish the Pond because people (and birds) actually fish in these ponds regularly, it reminds me of fishing with my Dad in the summers growing up, and this scene lets you stop and enjoy the surroundings, just like the time it takes waiting for the next fish to bite.

March is a great time of year to photograph this unique park at night.

The Milky Way rises more in the southeast during this time, which means the camera is pointing away from the localized light pollution from the town. It also is more flat along the horizon, which goes well with the large horizontal expanses of ponds and the tops of the rock walls formed when this place was a rock quarry.

With less local light pollution showing in the photos, it is easier to get detail in the whole starry sky. Even though the stars are still faint, and the colors sort of glow instead of pop, the ethereal feeling in the photo is perfect for a calming space.

Did you know the night sky is not actually blue?

The blue in the sky comes from sunlight (reflecting off the moon counts). During full dark of a new moon, there is no sunlight in the sky. There are lots of colors from the stars, and there can be air glow or other atmospheric effects that cause colors in the sky, but the overall hue of the sky is black.

I love the air glow greens and magentas that can occur in night photos, and the colors from the different stars (some of which are blue) and the H-alpha (red/magenta) in many of the nebulae and the Milky Way core is a golden orange color when correctly balanced. The more blue color in my photos is because of light pollution. When I edit, I compensate for the yellow light pollution along the horizon by allowing more blue color in my sky. I still get a lot of the correct colors in my sky, but the blues often come through quite a bit.

I like this look for my photos because I am getting it as close to correct as I can while not letting light pollution take over. Light pollution also helps illuminate my foreground, you would not be able to see this amount of detail without the light pollution. I love the calm, soothing feeling the final image gives me, I can breathe in the good vibes of nature

Fish the Pond 16x20 Fine Art Print
$120.00

A 16×20 inch photo print showing the Milky Way along the horizon of a pond in early spring, surrounded by tall grasses still brown from winter. There is a light glow of sky color on the water, and trees along the edge of rock walls in the background contrast against the sky. The sky is a rainbow of colors contrasting the Dark Horse and the Milky Way and then fading to a dark starriness above.

Printed on archival metallic paper, this print will last many years.

It will come titled and signed by me, with a story about the image.

This print will be ready to be matted in a standard 20×24 inch mat cut for a 16×20 picture, inserted in a 20×24 inch picture frame, and hung on your wall. Or simply framed as is in a 16×20 inch frame. Go with what feels right to you. Just know that whatever you decide, the framing job will be simplified due to the standard sizing of the art.

It is my thought that easier framing means you will be able to hang and enjoy your art much sooner.

  • I named this collection Step into Adventure because it really explores the type of fun we like to have on summer vacations shared with our families.

This art can stir up feelings of epic road trip adventures to once in a lifetime places. Even though none of these images are actually of iconic places, they can instill the same feelings when we let the art speak to our minds, souls, and memories.

Step into adventure can remind you that the regular places you maybe visit(ed) every year are just as important as those once in a lifetime places, as they leave a lasting legacy for your family.

I want to thank you from the bottom of my Artsy Fartsy heart for being here, and stepping into my adventure!
