Moonrise Star Reflection

ā€œThe moon is the first milestone on the road to the stars.ā€ -Arthur C Clarke

ā€œEveryone needs a place to retreat; a spot where the world grows quiet enough for the soul to speak. ā€

Oakes Quarry Park is my place. The place close to home I go to really be in nature. The place I find solid ground for my soul. The place I soak in the stars and they relax me. The place I find water for my dog to frolic in, and rock walls we climb together. The place I can surround myself with trees and flowers, sun and shade, open space and a quiet forest. The place for wildlife- birds, bugs, and beasties. Oakes Quarry Park is my home base place for star therapy.

Watching the moon rise is the perfect end to a night of star therapy.

Seeing the warm hue emerge on the horizon, orange from the atmosphere, is like a message from nature. Almost like the greeting of the sun in the morning.

My heart gets happy to see the moon wake and mingle among the stars. There are not many feelings quite like it.

Oakes Quarry Park has a unique landscape in my area, and it changes with the weather. Several ponds, which can come and go with the rains, are surrounded by almost barren rocky ground. Scattered with plants that pop out of the cracks in the rocks. Forest like trees and cliff walls encircle the entire place. It is a beautiful park and I am lucky to get to photograph there at night so often. Here the moon is rising, with it’s atmospheric orange glow and beginning to take over the starlit sky. However, the stars are still strong enough to reflect in the pond and shine in the sky up above.

Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and ask permission to experience wonders you may otherwise miss. Even though this park closes at sunset, the lovely local government does all they can to grant me permission of access when I ask to go photograph there at night.
